INSOL 2017 - CORE IPS

It is not often we get the chance to meet up with our colleagues at Turnkey from the UK, however the recent INSOL Congress enabled us to do just that. From 19th to 22nd March, Sydney hosted 850 international delegates working within the insolvency industry and so some of the team from the UK came over to be part of the event. This key event is held only once every four years, so it was an ideal opportunity for both Turnkey and CORE to promote our business and demonstrate why IPS is the premier software solution on both sides of the globe.

As it happens, there was no shortage of Turnkey staff volunteering for the trip to Sydney, so much so in fact that Tony was forced to pull rank. That left one other place, which was ably filled by Darren. They touched down in Australia on the Saturday afternoon and, despite the not-so-sunny weather, met up with Team CORE and managed some sightseeing. Circular Quay, the Botanic Gardens and the iconic Sydney Opera House all meant plenty of Facebook postings before their 22 hour journey started to take its toll for them!

On the Sunday evening INSOL 2017 got off to a great start with a welcome cocktail event at Sydney’s International Conference Centre. Entertainment included bouncing kangaroos – something Tony and Darren found a bit confusing, but which the CORE staff assured them was completely normal!!

The conference began ‘for real’ on the Monday. The venue did not disappoint and the Turnkey/CORE area was well signposted with pop up banners displaying our new corporate styling. The conference dates also happened to coincide with the launch of our new websites and it was the perfect platform for us to introduce the new sites and brand styling to the industry.
Delegates who visited the Turnkey/Core stand during the conference also had the opportunity to enter our prize draw. We hired a professional croupier to set the scene and encourage attendees to spin the roulette wheel and enter the draw by leaving their business card. In fact, no-one left empty handed as we had plenty of promotional gifts to give away. We even had branded poker chips! It proved to be a brilliant ice breaker and everyone enjoyed meeting up with all of the delegates who came along to try their luck and learn more about IPS in the process.

Tuesday afternoon was ‘do as you please’, which in our case meant cruising Sydney Harbour for some team bonding. Tony did not believe the Captain when he said the harbour was full of sharks but it’s safe to say he believed it by the end of the trip! Thankfully everyone survived and made it back in one piece.

To wrap up the conference on Wednesday, we joined our clients from Australia and the Cayman Islands at the gala dinner. We also used this event to make the prize draw. First prize – a bottle of Penfolds Grange – went to Frank Lo Pilato from RSP Australia. No mean runner up prize in the form of an Apple Watch went to Bradley Hellen from Pilot Partners. Congratulations to both.
Overall the conference was a huge success and all of our team members very much appreciated the chance to meet with our many international IPS clients, face to face, both during and out with the conference. We learned a great deal and look forward to forming relationships with the new contacts who expressed so much interest in our services.
As for the new brand style and websites, we were able to showcase these for the first time during the conference through our stand, our corporate banners, and our promotional leaflets. It’s always good to get first hand feedback and we are delighted to say the new style was well-received by all.

From my point of view a number of very good contacts where made which will allow us to investigate working in a number of new jurisdictions like India, Brazil, China and Vietnam

We also used the visit to catch up with the Core Australia team and had an excellent team bonding afternoon/evening onboard a 42-foot catamaran in Sydney harbour. The highlight of the cruise was finding ourselves in the centre of a massive electric storm!  Whilst we weren’t overly concerned, the captain seemed to be getting a little stressed as he urged us not to touch anything metal!  I fancied a wee swim until I was told the sharks feed between 6pm and 8pm. At that point I did wonder if we were, in true Jaws style, ‘gonna need a bigger boat’ . Amazed we lived to tell the tale!! – Tony Wood, Managing Director, Turnkey Group Ltd.

We made some very useful contacts to hopefully open up some new and exciting markets for IPS.   To entice people to the stand, we had a roulette wheel manned by a professional croupier. Over the course of the conference we all learnt enough to know never to go to a casino! – Darren White, Operations Director, Turnkey Computer Technology Limited.

“For me, it was great to catch up with some of our international clients that I don’t get to see face to face very often and it was nice to get positive feedback about our software and service. Another highlight was catching up with our UK colleagues to share ideas and see how they handle certain areas of Insolvency plus hearing about upcoming events.” – Toni Van Der Kreek, Technical Manager, CORE Australia.
